Lap timers and lap times are a thing of the past; today we have GNSS, lean angle, speed, acceleration, deceleration, and much more, all transmitted to a cloud in real time. The digital data analyst then identifies potential for improvement. It was invented by Andres Tschupp’s team.
The idea was awarded the Swiss Federal Innovation Prize. Inventor Andres Tschupp received a research budget of CHF 200,000 to implement his “Google Sport” idea with the University of Zurich. His digital “RaceAnalysis System” is revolutionizing racing, uncovering drivers’ strengths and weaknesses, locating potential for improvement, and connecting athletes with their role models and fans.
Virtual Trainer
«With the University of Zurich, we used data from RaceAnalyse to develop the perfect lap, essentially a MasterLapTM model with 15 different metrics», explains Tschupp. «The key physical and mathematical parameters are line and speed, or rather, acceleration and deceleration.
From racer for racer
Various time recording systems have long been available for amateur racers and professionals. With the digitalization of vehicles, more and more data can be read and displayed. Comparing telemetry data with that of the other driver—if available—shows exactly where time is lost or gained, allowing appropriate adjustments to be made, for example, in driving style and line selection.

Exclusive and
yet for everyone
One might think that the aforementioned sophisticated technology and comparability are reserved for the professionals. But that’s not the case! You don’t even need an exclusive F1 or MotoGP racing car for this. The digital RaceAnalysis system works without any installation work, cables, SIM cards, tethering, software, or anything else. Simply attach the small digital RaceAnalysis box to the racing car. If necessary, an OBD2 dongle can be used to display the RaceAnalysis data directly on the vehicle dashboard.
